From the PTA
The 4th Annual Silent Auction was a huge success!! We are so appreciative to all those who attended the event, purchased items, or donated to the auction in any way. If you were there, you know what an incredible evening it was and a fun time was had by all. And the best part was that we raised a lot of money which will allow the PTA to fund our 1st and 2nd grade paraprofessionals again next year. A BIG thanks to all the people on the planning committee and our chair, Micah D'Hondt, who spent endless hours to make this event the incredible success that it was.
Are you wondering how the staff addresses bullying at UPark...or how you can talk about bullying with your child? Do you know about the BrainWise program that our school uses to support positive behaviors school wide? Do you know how teachers address conflicts between students? Please join us on Thursday, March 13 at 6pm in the auditorium for the PTA meeting, where these issues and more will be discussed. Barbara Lamana, Toni Klein, Mindy Ostrom, Nancy Smith, Anita Murano-Sweetman, and Debbie Durkee will provide useful information for parents of all ages. We will provide free child care for potty trained children!
Penny Harvest News
The Penny Harvest collection raised $700! The student leadership committee is currently taking the information from the Wall of Caring to create a list of organizations. The next step will be for the students to conduct phone interviews with the organizations to determine which one(s) will receive the funds raised by the UPark community! The two classroom winners for most pennies collected are Mrs. Clark’s Room and Ms. Bryers’ Room. Classrooms will be given a choice of experience based ―prizes‖ in the next month or two. Thank you for all of your support and enthusiasm in this year’s Penny Harvest! It truly is amazing what just a few pennies can do for a nonprofit organization.
After School Enrichment
Girls on the Run registration is open until Friday, March 14! The first day of practice is next Wednesday, March 5, right after school. For those girls already registered, you’ll receive an information letter in the next couple days and it will include where the girls will meet after school. Girls on the Run registration is due Friday, February 21 and will start on Wednesday, March 5, after school. Girls on the Run (GOTR) inspires girls to a lifetime of self-respect and encourages healthy lifestyle choices through an innovative program that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk race with a fun, healthly education lesson plan. We will meet Wednesdays and Fridays after school through the spring. It's open to all girls in grades three, four and five. Registration begins Friday, February 7. For more information about the program, go to GOTR. Questions? Contact: Site Coordinator Julie Tremont at email@example.com or 720.315.5218.
Big as Life Music (BALM) summer band camp registration is open! For those of you who haven't attended before, these are action packed, all day (9am - 4pm) week-long camps that are open to incoming 4th-8th grade students (this means current 3rd graders are welcome!). This year, camp will be held at Most Precious Blood, which is located on the corner of Iliff and Colorado Blvd. Join us for "Rock Camp," June 16-20 and "World Music Camp: The Music of Japan and Mexico," July 7-11. No previous musical experience is necessary and both beginners and experienced students are welcome. Band camp is a fantastic time of learning and playing instruments! This is a great way to keep your child playing through the summer or to get an early start for band next year. Sign up soon, as spots fill up quickly. Online registration and more details are available at Big as Life Music. Please read the attachment for more information or contact Christmas Gainsbrugh (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
