What Makes UPark Elementary Special

Our elementary school begins at kindergarten (full and half-time) and continues through 5th grade. Beginning in the fall of 2011, children in UPark's Early Childhood Education (ECE 3 and 4) will attend the Knight Academy ECE program, which has marvelous facilities dedicated to children of preschool ages. UPark children will have their own classes and teachers within the facility so bonding and friendships can be formed prior to their advancement to the elementary school.

In 2010, University Park Elementary was recognized by 5280 Magazine as one of Denver's Best Elementary Schools (click to read the story). In 2009, we were one of only 5 elementary schools in the Denver Public School system to be recognized as Distinguished. This is quite an achievement considering our wonderful ethnic and socio-economic diversity, which also makes UPark so special: we have nearly 20 different countries from around the world represented in our student population!

Because of our innovative wellness policy, UPark Elementary was recognized by the Denver Post as the "healthiest school in Denver" and in 2011 we were awarded the prestigious National Wellness Award from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.  UPark also has an ongoing partnership with the University of Denver for sharing academic resources and student volunteers.

Under the leadership of our principal Dana Williams, we have added technology, a Gifted & Talented program, integrated arts, band, and a drama teacher to our dedicated and accomplished faculty.

UPark Elementary can count upon a community of parents who are always willing to support Principal Williams and her staff in any way they deem appropriate: including fundraising, classroom or office volunteers, extra tutoring for students, and more. We are a school whose parental community provides many volunteer hours and raises significant amounts of money in support of the goals that are collaboratively created by our principal, teachers and parents.
