How to Help Your Student Prepare for the TCAP
- Ensure regular and prompt school attendance – learning that is measured by the CSAP tests takes place every day. It is important that your student not miss school at anytime, including during the assessment dates.
IMPORTANT: Students who arrive at school after the start of a test session will be required to take the test during a make up session. - Provide a healthy breakfast and lunch every day. This is also very important on the days of the test.
- Be sure your student gets enough rest at night. A good night’s sleep for elementary students is usually between 10 and 12 hours of sleep.
Example: A student who gets up on a school day at 7:30 a.m. might go to bed between the hours of 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. - If your student wears glasses, be sure she has them on the days of the test and encourage her to wear them.
- Promote a positive attitude about the test. Let your student know that there may be items he doesn’t know the answer to and that’s okay, but that you expect him to do his best.
